Fire crews were called to put out a van which had its engine taken before being set alight.

One team went to the Ford Transit, which was on fire in Parsonage Lane, Bobbing, at about 12.45am today.

It had been completely burnt out and left, according to Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

They spent about an hour getting it under control alongside police.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 12.30am on April 22 to a report of a van on fire in Parsonage Lane, Bobbing.

"Enquiries were made and the incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Elsewhere, they were sent Borden Lane at about 3pm yesterday after a bonfire got out of control when a gas cylinder it was being started with malfunctioned.

No injuries were reported and they left at about 3.15pm.

Firefighters are warning people to take care when lighting bonfires and to be considerate of neighbours.

People are being discouraged from lighting bonfires as they can cause symptoms similar to coronavirus.

Shortly after the earlier call, at about 3.15pm, one crew was then sent to Peregrine Drive, Sittingbourne.

When they arrived, they found a mattress and bed on fire in a garage.

No damage was caused to the building and firefighters had left by about 3.30pm.
