Queuing traffic on A249 at Iwade and Kemsley turn-off

Long queues of traffic have built up on the A249 at its turn-off for Iwade and Kemsley, near Sittingbourne, this morning.

The Grovehurst Roundabout has been gridlocked and there are delays on the Sheppey-bound stretch of the dual carriageway as vehicles queue for the slip-road.

It is thought to have been caused by temporary traffic lights in nearby Swale Way, near the entrance to haulage firm Nicholls.

In November last year, a collapsed manhole cover caused huge tailbacks when temporary lights had to go up.

It is thought the manhole cover could be the cause of today's delays.
