The two-month closure of a busy roundabout section has begun.
National Highways has confirmed that the northern section of Stockbury roundabout will be closed between the A249 Sheppey-bound exit and A249 Maidstone-bound entry until the end of November.
A spokesman for the agency explained: “Following the arrival of the first flyover bridge beams to the south of the Stockbury roundabout, you may have noticed work progressing well on the bridge to the north of the roundabout.
“As the northern bridge section is so close to the roundabout, to allow us to continue with construction safely, we need to temporarily close a section of the Stockbury roundabout.
“We’re also going to take the opportunity to start on the central flyover support and walls within the Stockbury roundabout.”
During the closure, a diversion will be in place via the A249 Sheppey-bound to the Bobbing roundabout and return on the A249 Maidstone-bound carriageway.
Traffic accessing the A249 from the M2 coast-bound will use the dedicated off slip to join the A249 Sheppey-bound and will not access the roundabout directly from the M2.
The entrance onto Key Street from the A249 Sheppey-bound will also be closed, to help keep traffic stay on the formal diversion route and avoid clashing with other traffic management setups on the A2.
Drivers wishing to access Key Street will need to use Sheppey Way via the Bobbing roundabout.
