A249 crash: Man from Sittingbourne dies after colliding with parked lorry

A man was killed in a serious crash on the A249 near Sittingbourne last night.

The victim, in his 50s and from the town, was driving a black Citroën travelling towards Sittingbourne when he collided with a lorry which was legally parked in a layby at around 7pm.

Emergency services raced to the scene near the Stockbury roundabout but sadly he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. His family have been informed and a report will be passed to the coroner.

The northbound carriageway was closed between junction 5 of the M2 and the A2 until 12.15am.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798535 quoting number 008/17.
