Darren Belcher, of Cooks Lane, Sittingbourne, due in court after Pembury Street robbery

A man is due in court charged with robbery and fraud after a woman had her handbag stolen.

The victim was standing by her car in Pembury Street, Sittingbourne, at about 9pm on Sunday, March 17, when she was allegedly approached by Darren Belcher.

The 41-year-old is accused of grabbing her bag with her purse inside.

During a struggle, she fell to the floor, cutting her knee, elbow and hands.

Within 20 minutes of the attack her bank card was used in two fraudulent transactions.

Belcher, of Cooks Lane, Sittingbourne, was arrested on March 20, and charged robbery and two counts of fraud by false representation.

He was remanded in custody when he appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday, April 23.

No plea was entered.
