Murder arrest after man stabbed to death near College Road, Sittingbourne

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another was stabbed this morning.

Police said the victim, a man in his 40s, was found dead at a property off College Road in Sittingbourne in the early hours.

Two forensic vans, two police cars, and a private ambulance were in Medway Close, which is off College Road.

Officers were seen standing outside a property and a forensic team was also seen going in.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 1.36am following a report a man had sustained injuries consistent with stab wounds at a property.

"An 18-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are continuing to carry out inquiries."

The suspect, also from Sittingbourne, is known to the victim and the incident is being treated as isolated.

Police attended along with an ambulance and a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

One neighbour said: "It’s very sad what happened. I was shocked.

"My little one woke up at around 1am but I did not hear anything as I think I was still half asleep."

Another commented: "Police knocked on the door at around 2.15am. The helicopter was flying around.

"There was a fire engine and an ambulance. You couldn’t get in or out the close, it was totally blocked."

A resident along the road said that "this sort of thing doesn’t happen around here".

“There has been a lot of activity this morning," they explained. "I did not hear until the door bell went in the morning and it was the police.

"I have known this place all my life and it is not the sort of place this happens."

Another added: "I was going for a cigarette when I saw the blue flashing lights.

Forensics are at the scene

"All of a sudden they appeared here. This has never happened here before."

A spokesman from the fire and rescue service confirmed they were called shortly after 1.30am to assist the other emergency services.

One fire engine attended.

A rapid response vehicle from the air ambulance was also dispatched to Sittingbourne at the time.

Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are investigating and remain in the area carrying out inquiries.
