Man to appear in court in connection with deaths of Michael Shepherd and Karl Buchan in crash in London Road, Teynham

A 22-year-old is to be charged in connection with a double fatal car crash in Teynham in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Two men, Michael Shepherd, 27, and Karl Buchan, 23, died when a Renault Clio collided with the Jubilee Pump in London Road.

The man, who is yet to be named and from the Isle of Wight, has been summonsed to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 2.

He will be charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, two counts of causing death while uninsured, and two counts of causing death while unlicensed.

Post-mortem examinations revealed Mr Shepherd, of Bensted Grove, Faversham, and Mr Buchan, of Brook Road, Faversham, who were passengers in the car, died of multiple injuries.

Another passenger, Rosie Crittenden, was also injured but was discharged from hospital the week after the crash.

Police confirmed today, seven months on, that the 22-year-old man, who is understood to have spent about two-and-a-half months in hospital, was to be charged.
