A man taken to hospital after a collision which closed the A249 for 10 hours was standing beside his vehicle at the time of the crash.

The driver of a black Audi A1 Sport sustained chest injuries and was taken to a London hospital following the accident on the Sheppey-bound slip road at Bobbing, near Sittingbourne, at 11.50pm last night.

The man, who is in his 20s and from Gillingham, was standing beside his car after it came to a stop - believed to have been after it broke down - when it was involved in a collision with a white Volkswagen Caddy van.

A woman in her 20s and a teenage girl, both from Swale, sustained head injuries and were both passengers in the Audi.

The woman was taken to hospital and the girl was taken to a London hospital.

The driver of the van, a 42-year-old man from Murston, has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

The A249 was shut Sheppey-bound between the A2 Key Street Roundabout, near Keycol, and the B2005 Grovehurst Road for Iwade and Kemsley. It reopened at about 10am this morning.

Officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit want to speak with anyone who has information, including dash cam footage, linked to the crash.
