People have lined the streets this morning for the funeral of eight-year-old Maisy Mayne who was tragically killed in a freak accident near Sittingbourne.

The youngster died after being hit by a falling tree in Bobbing last month.

Today her funeral procession left the family's home in Clarendon Close and made its way past Tunstall school where staff and pupils who remember Maisy were able to watch and pay their respects.

Others along Tunstall Road also came out of their homes as the cortege made its short way to the nearby St John the Baptist Church, in Tunstall.

Around 100 people lined the route, before a service for friends and family took place.

Writing on the funeralguide.co.uk website, the Mayne family described Maisy as their ‘beautiful girl and amazing big sister’ and set up a fundraising campaign for three charities which have supported them.

Her younger sister Isla received life-saving surgery after the pair were hit by the tree.

Her family said: “We will miss you so, so much darling.”

So far nearly £14,500 has been pledged for the Kent Air Ambulance and nearly £6,000 has been raised for the Rhys Daniels Trust, which provides accommodation near Kings College Hospital in London.

The family said this allowed them to stay near Isla.

They also thanked Kings College Hospital for saving the life of Isla, who needed brain surgery following the tragic accident in Parsonage Lane, on August 21.

The statement said: “All of these are amazing charities and without them we’d have lost both our girls x.”

An inquest opening in Maidstone heard Maisy died from a traumatic head injury from a tree branch falling on her.

A full hearing is expected to be heard in November.
