Plans for 25 homes and a new school drop-off area in a village have been submitted to the council.

If approved, the two, three and four-bedroom homes will be built on land off School Lane, Newington, near Sittingbourne.

The proposal includes 25 homes

Proposals sent to Swale council outline plans for nine four-bedroom homes, 11 three-bedroom homes and five two-bedroom homes.

It would also include a parking and drop-off area for parents and staff to use.

It is proposed 20 spaces are created for the drop-off zone and an additional 20 for staff.

A design statement submitted to the council said: "The parking and drop-off area is needed because the existing school grounds are constrained and do not provide sufficient car parking for staff nor allow a safe zone for parents to drop off their children.

"Prior to the temporary parking/drop-off area being provided, during peak times the roads easily became congested, causing tension between parents, increased pollution due to idling cars and increased safety risks.

"Although an improvement from the existing school site, the temporary parking/drop-off area does not meet the full requirements of the school."

A consultation was undertaken last year asking parents what they thought of the initial plans for a drop-off zone.

If given the go ahead, it will include a looped area for parents which allows children to be dropped off in the area and met by a member of staff at the gate without the need for the parent to leave their car and "encouraging good traffic movement and reducing vehicle idling time".

The development would provide a "safe and secure parking area that caters for staff" and includes specific provision for the pre-school staff that currently have no parking within the grounds.
