A website has been launched to increase the profile of businesses in the borough.

Set up by Swale council, it was previewed during an event at the North Kent B2B Exhibition at the Woodville Halls in Gravesend.

According to Swale leader Cllr Andrew Bowles (Con), the website is further proof of the authority’s determination to put the borough on the business map.

He said: “We don’t sing our own praises enough. We’re doing better than anywhere in Kent in terms of creating a business-friendly environment.

“It’s helping increase the economic activity in Swale and therefore improve the lives of our residents by creating more jobs, better jobs and more chance of jobs.”

Cllr Bowles’ optimism regarding the borough’s marketability to potential investors was backed by Mayor of Swale, Cllr George Bobbin.

In a speech at the Swale Business Awards, he said since the economic downturn in 2008, a total of two million sq ft of new business had opened in the borough – more than anywhere else in Kent.

Lorna Wyrill, the council’s business and skills officer, who will be running the stand at the B2B exhibition, said she was looking forward to showing off the new website.

She said: “It’s been professionally designed by Faversham-based design agency Red Bullet, which has made sure it is accessible, user-friendly and easy to navigate around.”

The website is available at www.swalemeansbusiness.co.uk.
