Queues on A249 after Maidstone-bound crash

Traffic built up on the A249 following a three-car crash which left a pensioner requiring treatment.

It happened between the Key Street roundabout and Stockbury roundabout, near Sittingbourne.

Delays were reported on the Maidstone-bound stretch while a grey Golf, while van and white Ford Fiesta were recovered.

A 72-year-old man was looked over by medics to rule out a spinal injury.

A police spokesman said: "Officers were called just after 11am to a three-car collision on the A249, between the junction with Key Street and the Stockbury roundabout on the Maidstone-bound carriageway.

"Officers attended alongside the ambulance service and fire crews and at present there are no reports of serious injuries.

Sittingbourne fire station crew manager, Mat Barney, said three crews were sent including two from Sittingbourne and one from Rochester.

Emergency workers helped to clear up debris before the road was fully reopened by 1.35pm.

A South East Coast Ambulance service spokesman said: "Ambulance crews attended the scene following reports of a three vehicle RTC shortly after 11am.

"One patient required further treatment at hospital and was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital."
