Thousands were left without power in Sittingbourne due to a power cut.

Homes across the town and nearby Kemsley and Bobbing were affected, when the outage began at about 6.40pm yesterday.

UK Power Networks said 10 postcodes areas had lost power, and it was initially predicted it could take several hours for the issue to be rectified.

A statement on the company's website said: "An underground electricity cable faulted on our high voltage network, causing an area wide power cut."

But the firm was able to restore power to most of its customers remotely, and restored power to the remaining 195 addresses affected at about 7.30pm.

A spokesman said this morning: “Several thousand customers were impacted by a power cut in the Sittingbourne area at 6.42pm yesterday. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience the power cut caused.”
