In a statement, Jill Palmer, principal of the school, which caters for people with special educational needs, said the situation has been dealt with.

She said: "Meadowfield School has had a small number of field mice in the building.

"We believe this has been due to building work on the site, which has disturbed some field mice.

"The site team took prompt action after the sighting of the first field mouse in school and we now believe there are no more mice in school."
