A TEENAGE girl watched in horror as her puppy was killed by another dog after being ripped from her arms.

Paris Baacke, 14, was walking her long-haired Jack Russell Jens in Albany Road park, Sittingbourne, when they were attacked by the dog.

Paris had picked up her dog to protect it from the other one, thought to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, but it leapt up and pulled it from her arms, biting Paris’ fingers and hand.

Paris, a pupil at Fulston Manor School, and two friends, who were walking with her, stopped a passing police car and the officer, Acting Sgt Chris Hamper, stayed while other officers took Paris and the puppy to the vets’ surgery at Borden Lane, Sittingbourne. The puppy was dead on arrival at the vets.

Her dad Chris said: "I can’t thank the police and vets enough. They have been absolutely fantastic."

Mr Baacke said Sgt Darren Ryder and members of his Sittingbourne Neighbourhood Team had offered to find another puppy for Paris, but Mr Baacke said: "I’ve got Paris another puppy. He’s called Gunner, a smooth-coated Jack Russell."

Paris was treated for superficial wounds at the Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital and police tracked down the owner of the dog that attacked the puppy. It was later destroyed at the owner’s request.

Mr Baacke added: “Paris is blaming herself, but there was nothing she could do."
