BBC Radio One’s Ben Mundy is pounding the streets as he prepares
to run the London Marathon for Demelza Hospice Care for
Children.

The 28-year-old Newsbeat reporter, who hails from Sittingbourne,
has not forgotten the vital work of the charity he grew close to
while working as a DJ in Kent, for stations including Invicta FM
and BBC Radio Kent.

His training is well advanced and this week, Ben, who now lives
in Battersea, has already clocked up an 18-mile run.

He built up his mileage over Christmas when he returned to his
parents’ home in Milton Regis.

The former Borden Grammar School pupil even put his trainers on
for a Christmas Day run.

He is aiming to complete the marathon in just under
three-and-a-half hours, with the work of Demelza uppermost in his
mind.

Ben said: “The work they do for children and their families is
amazing and it all relies on voluntary contributions.

“When I saw for myself the incredible work they are doing, the
size of the building and staff involved in keeping it going, it’s
no longer a place I just drive past.”

Ben, who will take part in the marathon on April 21, is aiming
to raise £1,600 for Demelza and is appealing for sponsorship.
