Forensic officers have been compiling evidence after a woman was raped in Sittingbourne town centre.

Police were initially called to a car park near The George and Dragon pub, High Street, at 1.30am on Saturday to reports a 22-year-old had been attacked.

A 24-year-old man, who was arrested in connection with the incident at 3.30am, was kept in police custody throughout the day - but was later released on bail until November 29 pending further inquiries.

Detectives are still investigating and the forensics team has been back to the scene.

Andrea Don, owner of Nickel Books, which is on the opposite side of the road from pub, said: "The police van was there yesterday and the day before so they must have had quite a lot to do."

Kent Police urged witnesses or anyone in the area at the time to phone 01634 792333.
