The Street in Bapchild near Sittingbourne shut by police after girl hit by car

A road was shut by police after a young girl was hit by a car.

Emergency services were called to The Street, Bapchild, near Sittingbourne, this afternoon following the collision.

Police and paramedics were called shortly before 4pm.

The crash has caused delays in the area, with Kent County Council Highways warning people to allow extra journey time.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Kent Police was called at 3.51pm [today] to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on The Street, Bapchild.

"Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene where the pedestrian was treated for a leg injury."

Police later confirmed the pedestrian is a young girl.

A road closure was in place but it is understood it has since been reopened.
