A 12-hour darts marathon in aid of charity proved to be a big hit.

Twenty-four people took part in the event which was organised by husband and wife Ted and Rita Hannaford and held at the Gore Court Arms public house in Park Road, Sittingbourne.

A total of £180 was raised for the Alzheimer’s Society’s Maidstone branch which covers the Sittingbourne area.

The money was raised through donations, a raffle and fines for players who failed to score above 26 points using all three darts as well as bad language.

Mrs Hannaford said: “In 12 hours the players scored a combined total of 354,159 and there were 26 lots of 180’s which is the maximum score you can get with three darts.

“Our youngest player was about 18 and the eldest was probably my husband Ted.

“This is the second or third event we have held.

"We do it because we have lost a few friends to Alzheimer’s.

"We have done better in the past with the amount we have raised but we were quite happy with the £180 we raised on the night.

"It’s becoming an annual event so I suspect there will be another one next year.”
