Defender Nick Davis has joined Sittingbourne – two months after snubbing the club in favour of a move to Faversham.

Brickies joint-boss Jim Ward was angered by Davis’ close-season U-turn but he is not one to bear a grudge and jumped at the chance to sign the 30-year-old centre-half, who played under him at Maidstone and Ramsgate.

Ward (pictured) said: “He went to Faversham for more money but it didn’t work out there.

“He phoned me, said he’d made a terrible mistake and asked if he could join us.

“We’d been looking for a centre-half so it’s worked out well. Nothing surprises me in football.

“He’s a good player who brings a calmness to the team. We go back a long way and know exactly what he give us.

“I’m sure lads like Luke Harvey and Anthony Woodward would have something to say if I said Nick was our best defender but he’s certainly a good signing.”

Davis made his Brickies’ debut in a 2-1 FA Cup preliminary round victory over Burnham at the weekend. He is expected to start when Sittingbourne travel to Ryman League, Division 1 South newboys Herne Bay on Saturday as left-back Ashley Ulph starts a three-game ban.
