The son of a motorist attacked by a jogger while he was driving home has slammed the "cowardly act" and urged witnesses to come forward.

Police were called to St Michael's Road, near Aldi, in Sittingbourne at around 5.30pm on Tuesday to reports a man in his 50s had been attacked.

Now, the victim's son, who wants to remain anonymous to protect his father, is calling for people to come forward after his dad was knocked unconscious and needing medical attention at Medway Hospital for facial injuries.

"The whole thing was completely unprovoked," he said.

"My dad was driving along when a man ran out in front of him, put his hands on the bonnet before walking round the back of the car, opening his door and repeatedly kicking and punching him in the face and neck.

"My dad fell unconscious and his car rolled along the street. He could have been hit by an oncoming car and things would have been much worse."

The victim's son praised his father for somehow being able to drive home and explain what happened.

'I've lost faith in humanity a bit that nobody came to help him.'

He said: "He's just a simple bloke who goes to work, comes home and watched the TV. He's one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet.

"I went to the scene the next day at around the same time and it was manic, so someone definitely saw the extremely cowardly attack.

"My dad thinks he heard another man call the jogger Chris and tell him to stop.

"I've lost faith in humanity a bit that nobody came to help him. Even if they didn't want to help they can at least go to the police."

Police are appealing for information following the incident earlier this week.

The person they are looking for is a 5ft 10in white man in his late 20s with brown, wavy hair, who was wearing a light grey tracksuit at the time.

A police spokesman said: "Officers are investigating the circumstances and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.

"They would also like to obtain dash camera footage, or privately held CCTV, that captures the incident."

Anyone with information is asked to call Kent Police on 01795 419119 quoting 46/174604/20.
