The inquest into the death of teenager Georgia Mann was opened and adjourned today.

Assistant coroner Katrina Hepburn heard that Georgia, who was only 15, was sitting in the rear of a vehicle that had broken down on the A249 slip road at Bobbing.

A friend was attempting to put petrol in the car, when it was struck from behind by a van.

Georgia suffered severe brain injuries and an injury to her pelvis and although she was rushed to Kings College Hospital in London, she died on October 26.

The inquest will resume on March 11, at 10.30am at the Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone.

Georgia's death had shocked the community in Sittingbourne were she lived and pupils at Westlands Secondary School which she attended.

Her sister Sammy Law described Georgia as a "beautiful angel" who was always dancing and singing, and would do anything to help anyone."

Westlands head teacher Simon Cox said: "It is with the greatest of sorrow that we have lost Georgia, one of our popular, enthusiastic Year 11 students, who had the personality to fill any room."

Around 500 people attended a candlelit vigil at Gore Field, Grove Park, following her death and a GoFundMe set up to help the family cover funeral expenses and provide a memorial for Georgia quickly raised more than £15,500.
