Officers arrived alongside three crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).

A SECAmb spokesperson said the motorcyclist was assessed by paramedics at the scene before being taken Kings College Hospital in London with potentially serious injuries.

The main road was closed in both directions from around 8pm until 10.45pm forcing motorists to find alternative routes.
