Train disruption due to a landslip is expected to continue into next week.

A landslip occurred in Newington, Sittingbourne yesterday which blocked the line for four hours.

Southeastern says a safety inspection took place which allowed the line to reopen briefly, but following further movement of the embankment, the line is closed again and will remain closed until at least the end of today.

The operator has since said the disruption could last until next Friday (March 1).

Currently, trains cannot run from Rainham to Sittingbourne.

Services for London Victoria - Ramsgate / Dover via Chatham (in both directions), and London St Pancras International - Ramsgate via Faversham (in both directions) are all cancelled.

There will be a special train service operating between Ramsgate - Faversham and Dover - Faversham.

This will be further supplemented by a replacement bus service between Faversham and Gillingham, the buses for which have been requested.

Trains can run from Faversham towards Rainham/Gillingham/London but may be disrupted.

A Southeastern statement reads: “Urgent repairs to the track between Gillingham and Faversham means train services running through these stations may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised.

“Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

“Our amended service will continue, and we are currently working on plans for tomorrow and will update the journey planners later today.”
