Residents are outraged over plans for more homes in their village.

A planning application for up to 86 properties to be built off Lynsted Lane, Lynsted, near Sittingbourne, has been lodged with Swale council.

According to the documents, the development would be a mix of one and two-bed apartments, two and three-bed bungalows and two to five-bed houses. It also proposes an allocation for 50% affordable units.

However, scores of residents have already objected to the plans.

Charlotte Roisin said: “Residents are outraged.

"This development will put increasing pressure on the already over-congested main road, London Road, and will add to the pollution levels in the area.

“There is no need for these homes, which will put further constraints on our village and the local services we enjoy.”

Julien Speed, chairman of Lynsted with Kingsdown Parish Council opposes the plans

Julien Speed, chairman of Lynsted with Kingsdown Parish Council, said: “People really do not want this.

"We’ve only got 500 houses in Lynsted, another 86 would be an increase of 20%.”

But, Mr Speed said the “bigger problem” for the parish was Swale council’s draft Local Plan, which went to public consultation on Monday.

“It’s the biggest threat that Lynsted has ever faced - 305 new houses and a bypass that would carve up this historic parish,” he said.

“There has been no dialogue with residents or parish councils.”

The plan could see 1,400 new homes being built in Lynsted and Teynham.
