A shopper is warning others to be on their guard after she was sexually assaulted in a shop.

The 40-year-old was in the DIY section of the 99p Store in Sittingbourne High Street when a man touched her bottom.

A few moments later he appeared in another aisle and tapped her three times on her backside as he walked past.

The incident happened at the 99p Store in Sittingbourne High Street

The incident happened between noon and 12.30pm on Tuesday, July 14.

She said: “I was just in shock to be honest. I was pushing my two-year-old grandson in his buggy and I carried on walking but I was getting angrier about it.

“I was paranoid afterwards that he was following me. My 22-year-old daughter, who was with me, asked ‘what’s the matter?’ and I said ‘that guy’s just touched me, not once but twice’.

“He then came back around again. My daughter, was a few steps behind me and she said it looked like he was going to go for it again.

"He obviously gets his rocks off by touching people. You don’t expect it when you’re shopping. I would urge anyone else who has been touched by him to report it to the police as I’d like to see him caught..." - Victim

“Concerned I asked the cashier if there was a manager. When he arrived he offered to look at the CCTV.

"He said he couldn’t see him touch me but he could see his hand moving towards me, not placed on my bottom, and said he was going to look through the rest of it for the second incident.”

The matter was reported to the police and an officer visited her home later that night to take a statement.

Another lady posted a message on Facebook the same evening saying a man had touched her partner’s sister’s bottom twice in the same store, the other week. She also reported it to staff.

The suspect in the latest incident is described as white, aged about 25, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 9in with short dark cropped hair.

He was wearing dark baggy jeans, a light coloured T-shirt, a black bomber jacket and possibly dark trainers.

She added: “He obviously gets his rocks off by touching people. You don’t expect it when you’re shopping.

“I would urge anyone else who has been touched by him to report it to the police as I’d like to see him caught.

“I’m worried it might escalate. You don’t know if he might touch a child or a young girl next.”

A police spokesman said officers are investigating and inquiries are ongoing.

The 99p Store has been approached for a comment.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the non-emergency number 101.
