Has missing Sittingbourne peacock travelled 20 miles to Ashford?

A pet peacock which went missing from a home in Tonge, near Sittingbourne, may have turned up...20 miles away in a village near Ashford.

Percy, who lived in the grounds of the boutique hair salon Shirlaw Sanctuary in Little Murston Farm was found to have disappeared on May 22.

His owner Natalie Shirlaw believes he was taken at some point during the day as her husband, Neil, saw him in the morning before leaving for work.

Despite appeals on social media, the couple's attempts to find Percy proved fruitless.

But yesterday morning, a peacock matching Percy's colouring mysteriously turned up at a nursery in Shadoxhurst.

Bill Hollands, owner of Handcocks Farm Nursery in Bethersden Road, was baffled when he found the beautiful bird strutting around inside a polytunnel.

Mr Hollands said: "We've no idea where he's come from but he seems quite happy. Someone brought some bird food over and fed him."

Mrs Shirlaw and her husband immediately made the journey to Shadoxhurst in the hopes it was indeed missing Percy.

Unfortunately, before they got there the bird had flown off and was nowhere to be found.

Mrs Shirlaw said: "It did sound like it was him.

"I don't know where he is now, but at least he's out there and seems to be okay."
