Armed police were spotted at Sittingbourne railway station after reports of a man with a gun.
Five policemen carrying firearms were seen at the station in St Michael's Road yesterday evening.
They received a call at 6.40pm saying a man was believed to be holding a gun in nearby Roman Square.
Police looked for the man and found him at the railway station, where they searched him at 7.18pm.
No firearm was found and a police spokesman said: "There is no evidence that any offences have taken place."
No train services were disrupted.
