Local author John Clancy has written a book about the Isle of Sheppey.
Mr Clancy, who in 2002 wrote The Story of Sittingbourne and Milton Regis and in 2007 penned Sittingbourne, a History, was approached by his publishers for a similar one about the Island.
Mr Clancy, of Woodside Gardens, Sittingbourne, is delighted with the result, The Story of Sheppey.
Mr Clancy, 68, knew a little about Sheppey’s history, and had a lot of research to do for the 128-page book.
As well as the dockyard and history of the towns, there is also mention of the aviation history.
Mr Clancy said: “It’s certainly different from my previous books and it was refreshing to get away to a different area. Sheppey really does have a rich history.”
Mr Clancy is married to Pat and has two children and six grandchildren.
He graduated with a BA in humanities this year after an Open University course in archaeology and local history.
The Story of Sheppey, £12.99, is available at Rainham Bookshop and could soon be stocked at Sheerness Library
