Sterling work by two men when the heating duct collapsed at Minster College in May has been recognised at an awards ceremony.
Sheppey community first responder, Daniel Jackson, received a commendation for his actions at the South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust’s annual awards.
Daniel who works at the college was able to provide medical assistance to the children before ambulance clinicians arrived.
Community Responder lead, Mick Troth, who nominated Daniel, said: “Daniel quickly took control of the situation and helped evacuate the children from the hall.
“He then assessed and attended to those children who needed help until ambulances arrived.
"He continued to support clinicians during the emergency which could have been much more serious.”
Sittingbourne technician, Les Gilling, was also recognised for his efforts at the incident.
Les was the first ambulance clinician to arrive at the scene of the incident.
By the time a senior officer arrived, Les was successfully managing the emergency, coordinating the assessment, treatment and transportation of casualties to hospital.
Senior operations manager Steve Rose said: “Les did an outstanding job in managing the emergency before a senior officer had arrived.
“He continued to assist in the incident which saw 12 patients being taken to hospital.
“Thankfully they were all treated and released on the same day.”
