Teynham Scout leaders, Paul and Amanda Seymour, honoured by parish council

A Teynham couple have been awarded for their long-term involvement with Scouting.

The pair from Harrys Road were presented with a community award from the Kent Association of Local Councils.

Amanda is a Queen’s Scout, and has been involved in leading for 32 years.

Her husband Paul has been a helper since 2009, and his duties include fundraising through paper recycling, boot fairs, music quizzes and minibus driving.

Their daughter Megan, 18, is following in their footsteps and is a group sectional assistant.

Amanda, who is in charge of the 1st Teynham Scouts, said: “It was lovely to get the award. Organising the Scouts can be very hard work but it’s very rewarding too.”

She added: “We’re a very successful Scout troop but it’s only possible because of a dedicated group of helpers.

“It’s really good that five of our adult leaders are under the age of 22, as the rest of us are rather on the mature side.”

Explaining how she became involved in Scouting, Amanda said: “Someone did it for me when I was younger, someone gave up their time for me to enjoy Guiding and Scouting, and I want to pass on what I got out of it.”

The troop, which meets in Conyer Road, has 24 youngsters between the ages of 10 and 14.
