A Sittingbourne band have released a charity single in a bid to help a bullied teenager.
Amberslide created Just Go Away based on the diaries of 14-year-old Amber Haddon.
Now attending Oasis Academy in Sheppey, she is said to have been picked on by pupils at her former school in Sittingbourne and her mum approached the town’s Tim Scrivens, guitarist, for some help.
The 42-year-old immediately took up the challenge of writing a song for Amber, who loves music, inviting her along to a jam session with other band members Phil Washington and Chris Palmer, from Sittingbourne, Paul Grinshaw, from Rainham, and Peter Lloyd, from Medway.
They took the teenager, of the Broadway, Sheerness, under their wing and by working through her diaries, wrote a song based on her experiences.
Tim, who works as a procurement manager for groundworks company Coinford, said: “She had a lot of really disturbing and dramatic experiences so it was great that we were able to help her express her feelings through music.
“She probably also got a bit of kudos too, with a rock band taking her on!”
Tim also used his contacts from his Surrey-based company to raise money for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation, a charity set up in memory of the 21-year-old who was murdered for being a goth in Lancashire in 2007.
Working with civil engineering firm Rudridge, he raised £2,725 for the organisation and created a moving music video starring family and friends.
Darren Price, group operations manager at Rudridge, said: “We work closely with Tim and were keen to support him when he came to us with such a great project.
“Bullying can sadly come in many different forms these days with the rise of social media and smart technology so we are pleased to do anything we can to help stop this behaviour.
“We hope people will support the charity by viewing the video and buying the single.”
Amberslide have been together for six years.
