A disabled 60-year-old woman was left shaken after thieves grabbed her bank card from her purse and quickly withdrew money from her account.
The woman was in the car park of the Sainsbury’s in Avenue of Remembrance, Sittingbourne, on Monday at around 5.45pm when she was approached by two men.
They told her she dropped £20 and convinced her to open her purse. They snatched her card and made off.
Within the hour, £250 had been withdrawn from cash machines and £400 was made in online transactions from her account.
It is believed the thieves were able to so after watching her enter her PIN in the supermarket.
The victim’s son, Steve Belsey, said: “She’s really shaken.
“She feels quite stupid. She’s not in the best of health so this kind of stuff sets her back quite a bit.
“The bank has been really kind so all the money is going to be replaced.
“We were lucky they just snatched the bank card but the type of people they are targeting, it could potentially impact their lives quite heavily. It can have a lasting affect.”
“If it had happened to an someone who was 80-odd, it could have been much worse" - Steve Belsey
