Firefighters tackle barn fire in Spade Lane, Hartlip

Firefighters have been attempting to battle flames which engulfed a barn.

Emergency crews were called to the outbuilding in Spade Lane, Hartlip, shortly after noon.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman confirmed teams in at least three fire engines attended.

A picture shows the blaze taking hold of the building and spreading to a pile of nearby rubble.

An eyewitness said: "We're in the next row along and the smoke was engulfing us at one point.

"I drove around and everyone was there. The barn was emptied at the weekend apparently.

"There's not a lot left of it. There's no real apparent reason why it would've gone up."

He added that neighbours are now concerned houses with similar barns could be at risk.

"It's scary how quickly it went up," he added.

Crews had left by 3.55pm.
