Burning debris from a 500-tonne hay stack forced police to close a road.
Two fire crews were called to the blaze in a field in South Green Lane, Sittingbourne, at about 11.20pm Thursday.
Because of the remote location of the field crews could not use water pumps to put out the fire but allowed it to burn under supervision.
As the stack burned it collapsed and debris fell across the road.
South Green Lane was closed by police and diversions were set up.
The road was still closed this morning, fire crews are due to go back at about 11am.
Adrian Boorman, crew manager, said: "It was not a square stack but a pyramid and had fallen across the road. It was in a remote area and so we could not use the water pumps so watched it an allowed it to burn under supervision.
"We are going back to check the state and find out who owns the land."
