Brass instruments worth more than £5,000 have been stolen from a car belonging to an oompah band musician.
The blue Vauxhall Astra was parked between Burley Road and Rock Road, in Sittingbourne, when a window was smashed at around 8.30pm yesterday.
A £2,000 Yanigasawa A901 Alto Saxophone with a Jody Jazz Jet 6 mouthpiece and a Rovner Leather ligature was taken, along with a £3,000 Bb Buffet R 13 Prestige Clarinet with a Vandoran M30 profile mouthpiece and a Vandoran optimum ligature.
An iPad and Bluetooth speaker were also taken.
Musicians Karen O’Brien, 31, the car owner, and partner Geoff Moore are both “very upset and annoyed” by the crime.
She was visiting him and it happened whilst the couple were eating dinner.
Mr Moore, who plays in the Oktoberfest band Die Dorf Fest Kapelle with Karen, said: “A neighbour came and knocked on my door and told me the car had been broken into.
“The window had been smashed, the doors were open and so was the boot and there was stuff all over the floor.
“A suitcase of costumes had been opened and emptied out with picture books scattered and glue cracked onto the road too."
“That Lederhosen was worth quite a bit too but they didn’t seem to want it.”
The pair have managed to borrow instruments for two upcoming gigs this week but according to 45-year-old Geoff: “It’s not the same”.
No suspect has yet been identified by police and enquiries are ongoing.
