“He was very angry and swore... he punched my cheek. There was blood inside.”

Under an extended sentence for public protection, he will not be considered for release from the nine-year term until he has served two thirds. He will be on licence for a further three years.

The 25-year-old, of Crown Quay Lane, admitted two offences of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Jake Kerswell, of Sheppey Beach Villas, Manor Way, Leysdown, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and was sentenced to 16 months in prison.

Prosecutor Ed Connell said Jake Kerswell went to the takeaway in East Street just after 11pm on January 6 and became “rather animated” and banged on the counter when told it was closed.

Mrs Lu told her husband to call the police. Kerswell tried to stop her going outside, but she managed to do so to get help.

He grabbed her arm and pushed her back before punching her in the mouth splitting her lip. He punched her all over her body as her husband tried to intervene.

Jane Wise, the mother of Kerswell’s girlfriend, arrived in a car and urged him to get in.

Mrs Lu told Kerswell: “Don’t punch me again or I will give you kung fu.” He responded by headbutting her.

A group of people on their way home from an evening out confronted him.

Miss Wise, meanwhile, went to Kieron Kerswell’s home and reported there was trouble. Without stopping to put on shoes and socks he was driven to the scene.

He approached the group of people with a knife at his side, Mr Connell told Maidstone Crown Court.

Mr Connell said the effect on both men was ongoing.
