A Sittingbourne businessman helped stop a woman from jumping off a bridge.
Terry Utting was driving over the busy A249 when he saw the woman climb over one of the bridge’s barriers at Bobbing.
He said: “I was returning from the gym when I saw her climb onto the ledge.
“I slammed on the brakes and ran across to her and grabbed her by the arms.
“I tried to talk her out of it and all the time I could see traffic driving underneath us.”
Luckily a passing motorcyclist also stopped and raced across to help Mr Utting.
The pair of men held the woman until police arrived.
The woman later agreed to climb back onto the road and was led to safety.
The drama happened at 4.30pm on Thursday, February 6.
The A249 which links Sittingbourne to Sheppey was closed during the emergency.
A police spokesman said: “We were called to a report of a distressed woman on the A249 near Bobbing.
“Officers attended and enforced a road closure to ensure public safety.
“The woman was safely located by officers and handed into the care of medical professionals.”
Mr Utting, 40, runs 14 vape stores across the county and has just opened a new cannabis health shop in Sittingbourne High Street called CBD Health and Wellness.
The hero dad-of-two admitted: “It was very frightening at the time. I was the first on the scene.
“While I was with the woman she kept yelling ‘Let me go, let me go’ and was constantly pulling forward.
“I had no idea what would happen. The motorcyclist and I ended up each holding one of the woman’s arms until others joined us.
“Luckily, I was just in the right place at the right time.”
