Cancer sufferer marries

by Lynn Cox

A mum who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer has thanked her friends and family for their generosity after making one of her dreams come true.

Former Westlands School pupil Zoe Smith was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2009, and after undergoing treatment was given the all-clear.

However, earlier this year the mum-of-one was told the cancer had returned and spread to her lungs, lymph nodes and ovaries and this time it was terminal.

With time against her, the 35-year-old announced there were three things she wanted to do before she dies: marry her partner of 11 years, Adrian Bullen, known as Adie; have their daughter Frankie, seven, christened; and to go on a family holiday to Disneyland Paris.

Friends and relatives who were determined to make her wishes come true chipped in to help with the cost of the wedding, which took place at the King Charles Hotel, Gillingham.

Zoe, who moved from Playstool Close, Newington, to Detling Close, Twydall, last February, said: "It was a brilliant day, smashing, everything went well.

"I'd like to thank my friends and family for making it possible. They made my day."

Friends Tara Crossland and Lisa Johnson, both from Newington, and Kelly Edwards, from Faversham, had arranged a sponsored walk around Sittingbourne to help boost funds, and Lisa's dad, Tony Smith, had his hair shaved off to raise cash.

Zoe, who works as a kitchen assistant at St Margaret's Infant and Junior School, in Orchard Street, Rainham, added: "We've not got round to having our daughter christened yet and we still need to find a bit more money to be able to book up the holiday to Disneyland Paris.

"We need to save up a bit so we've got enough spending money."
