The first of this year's Swale music festivals kicks off this Saturday at the Woodstock Club, Sittingbourne.
The Drive In Groovy 2 event is a car show with a difference. Music fans don't even have to get out of their vehicles to enjoy the sounds and antics of local bands Marvellous Mo and the Backline Ferrets and Marylebone Jelly - making it totally covid-friendly.
They can drive up with up to five people per vehicle and boogie on the bonnet or dance around the doors.
Maurice Dunk, otherwise known as lead singer Mo and also chairman of Sittingbourne Town Football Club, said: "It's a proper festival with an outside stage, sound and lights. But it is Covid-compliant. We are hoping the weather will remain fine but if it doesn't, people can still move to the music in their motors while keeping dry and warm."
He added: "We did this before in September as an experiment and the first 10 who booked for Saturday's show had been to that event, so they obviously felt comfortable with the arrangements. I think people are just champing at the bit to get out and have a bit of a boogie to a live band again.
"We are certainly looking forward to it with our friends Marylebone Jelly. It will be one long party from the start to the end."
It is the first public outing of the year for Marylebone Jelly which has been busy during the coronavirus lockdown recording a new EP called Bone Idols. Members led by singer Ed Austin have also been creating virtual band sessions to entertain their fans.
Ed said: "We are so looking forward to this."
Music fans can take their own food and soft drink although hot food and alcohol, at club prices, will be available on the night.
The stage and PA is being provided by Sittingbourne entertainments firm Triple A. Security is by Akon.
Tickets for a car and up to five people are £40 from 07730 412278. Because of current regulations, they must be ordered in advance. The shows starts at 7pm at The Woodstock in Broadoak Road.
