A good sense of humour and feeling young at heart – they are the secrets to a 50-year marriage according to a couple who have just passed the landmark anniversary.
Joan and Cyril O’Connor of Scocles Road, Minster, celebrated their golden wedding on Sunday.
They were introduced by a mutual friend and Mrs O’Connor remembers their first date – to Humphrey’s, a cake shop in Broadway, Sheerness.
She said: “We went for tea and cakes.
“I had seen Cyril before as he was a brilliant dancer. We still dance now.”
The couple married in St Paul’s Church in Blue Town when Mrs O’Connor was 21 and Mr O’Connor was 32.
To celebrate their anniversary, they went on a two-week Mediterranean cruise and on Saturday hosted a party at Minster Abbey Church Hall.
They also invited friends and family around for a celebration in the garden of their home on Sunday.
