After his trip to the Bobbing home in April to cut the ribbon on a new play area, he came back with his wife Natasha and their boys Noah and Eli to open the Garden of Tranquillity.
It features lawns, a picnic area, a water feature, sensory areas and a stone bridge.
It’s designed as a place for reflection and remembrance, as well as a fun and welcoming area for children staying at the hospice.
Noah declared the garden open and when asked by his dad why it was a special place he said: “Because poorly children are here.”
Chris said: “It’s great to be here. We couldn’t wait to come back again –I was so touched the last time I came.
"When people are scared and trepidatious about coming to hospices, as they so often are, it’s because they’re fearful, because they don’t know what goes on. I thoroughly encourage you all to just get people to come here.”
A team from Canary Wharf Contractors helped create the garden, which was nine months in the making.
Cormac MacCrann, the company’s executive director, said: “We have been a staunch supporter of Demelza for many years and it is terrific that we have been able to bring our collaborative approach to project delivery to build this garden for them.”
