The clock is ticking to raise £50,000 so a disabled girl can undergo pioneering surgery in the US.

Six-year-old Lola Stockdale has four limb cerebral palsy, global development delay and cerebral vision problems caused by birth trauma.

Her condition means she is unable to walk, talk or feed herself. She relies on a wheelchair to get around and wears glasses.

In a bid to improve her quality of life, parents Kellie Humphrey, 34, and Noel Stockdale, 36, started a campaign called Lola’s Journey in August 2012 to raise the necessary funds so their daughter can undergo stem cell treatment in America.

It is hoped the operation, which involves taking cells and implanting them into the brain to act as a repair system, will improve her quality of life. The couple will cover the flight and accommodation costs themselves.

So far they have raised £30,700 thanks to various fundraisers, donations and sponsored events, but the final target needs to be raised before July so the youngster can be treated the following month.

Mum-of-three Kellie, a former Fulston School student whose parents live in Harold Road, Sittingbourne, said: “What we’ve raised so far is absolutely fantastic.

"It’s a high amount of money and we’re well on our way but we need to reach our target by the summer because Lola turns seven in December and its best to do the treatment before that age."

Kellie, who lives in King Street, Gillingham, added: “I think we will reach it in time. I’ve got faith and I’m keeping positive. I just hope this year’s events can help us achieve our goal.”

Forthcoming fundraisers include a quiz night at Easter at the Fruiterers Arms in Bottles Lane, Rodmersham.

A football match is expected to be held at Lordswood Sports and Social Club in North Dane Way, Walderslade, on May 4.

Officers and staff from Medway police station, who took part in a 500-mile bike ride last year, are set to up the ante by cycling 500 miles across five countries in five days in May.

Paul Foreman, who lives in Milton Regis, is organising a banger race. It is likely to be held in Dover sometime over the August bank holiday weekend.

Mr and Mrs Stockdale hope to hold a fun day at Woodcombe Sports and Social Club, Church Road, Murston, the same month.
