Two men have been jailed after officers found a sock filled with class A drugs in a car in Sittingbourne.

A police patrol stopped a suspicious BMW driven by Leon Springer, 37, on the A249 in June last year.

With the help of a drugs dog, they found two large lumps of cocaine and heroin wrapped in clingfilm and hidden in a sock.

The drugs are understood to have a street value of up to £6,000.

Springer, of Victoria Street in Whitstable, was arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply.

An examination of the clingfilm linked 32-year-old John Carroll to the offence.

Officers executed a search warrant at his address in Clive Road, in Dulwich, London, and found £5,000 in cash and evidence of supplying drugs.

He was arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply and possessing criminal property.

Both men were sentenced to five years in prison at Maidstone Crown Court.

Investigating officer DC Mark Donovan said: "Springer and Carroll sought to financially benefit and take full advantage of vulnerable people by pumping cocaine and heroin into the county.

"Our officers are always investigating drugs offences, and with our drugs dogs, and the latest technology at our fingertips, we’re making it increasingly difficult for criminals to operate.

"No financial benefit is worth five years in prison, and to ensure that message hits home, we’ll be working to seize any available cash that Springer and Carroll earned in their criminal endeavours."
