Digital camera is helping patients' treatment

By Hayley Robinson

A digital camera is helping nursing staff deal with injuries.

The latest equipment, which is being used in the minor injuries department at Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital, means staff can take an image of a wound and email it to a specialist unit at East Grinstead for evaluation, which reduces the need for patients to travel to another hospital.

The camera was bought by the League of Friends for Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital and Community which raises money for the hospital and staff.

In the last year the group has bought £6,000 worth of equipment such as a new treadmill in the podiatry clinic to help with the analysis of patients’ gait problems, games and toys for patients in the cognitive therapy groups held at the Southlands Day Centre, and toys in the hospital’s waiting room.

New seating has also been purchased for the entrance hall.

Marion Cogger, senior estates property manager at the hospital, said: "We would like to thank the League for funding these purchases and for their ongoing support to the hospital."
