A terminally ill mum has booked her wedding day thanks to dozens of businesses and individuals coming forward to help make her dream come true.
Aimee Willett, of Charlotte Street, Sittingbourne, will marry her fiancé Michael Bond next February at Westenhanger Castle in Hythe.
The 26-year-old was diagnosed with cancer last year but was told in June another tumour had been found and this time it was inoperable.
The disease was initially discovered following her first smear test at the age of 25 – when screening starts.
While she has been told she will be here to enjoy this year’s festivities, the longer-term prognosis is less clear.
Now the former Sittingbourne Community College pupil is focusing on having the “best Christmas ever” with her sons Charlie, eight, and Kaleb, three, and has drawn up a bucket list, including marrying her partner.
It was the latter that prompted a public outpouring of support and saw The KM Group inundated with calls and emails from wedding planners, florists, car companies, professional photographers and venues.
Castle director Sarah Poole offered the venue to the couple for their big day because “it’s every girl’s dream to get married in a castle”.
The Remi Collection, based in Walton-on-Thames, is providing the rings, while Cinderella’s Dreams Wedding and Event in Sevenoaks is supplying chair covers and decorations.
In addition, a fundraising appeal has reached more than £31,000.
The original target was £2,000 but that was smashed by an anonymous donation of £25,000 within 26 hours of it going live.
David Fairbank, from Suffolk, created the JustGiving page during the early hours of last Thursday.
The 27-year-old said: “I’m gobsmacked by it and pretty chuffed.
“We don’t know who made the £25,000 donation. It could be a celebrity or a business person.”
Miss Willett, who spoke out about her tragic circumstances in the hope of encouraging other women to attend their cervical screening, says she has been touched by the level of response.
She said: “It’s been overwhelming, mental. I never thought this was going to happen. People offering [all this], it’s lovely, it’s beautiful.
“But it’s got the message out there to raise awareness, which is the only thing I really wanted.”
