An elderly woman has died of her injuries after a blaze at her flat.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the fire in Mockett Court, Frederick Street, at around 11.10pm Monday night.
The 83-year-old was taken to King’s College Hospital in London for treatment for serious burns.
It took crews and two fire engines to put out the flames.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to douse the fire.
Residents reported seeing a helicopter land in nearby Johnson Road after flying over the Bobbing area at around midnight on Monday.
The property is owned by AmicusHorizon, who said: “Staff have been supporting the other residents at the property at this difficult time.
“Our thoughts are with the family of the resident who passed away.”
Investigations are still underway to find the cause of the fire.
It is not being treated by police as suspicious.
