An elderly woman was rushed to hospital after suffering serious burns after a blaze at her flat.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the fire in Mockett Court, Frederick Street, at around 11.10pm last night.
The pensioner was taken to King's College Hospital in London for treatment.
It took crews in two fire engines to put out the flames.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to douse the fire.
Residents reported seeing a helicopter land in nearby Johnson Road and the Bobbing area at around midnight.
The property is owned by AmicusHorizon, which has officers on site helping residents today.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but it is not being treated by police as suspicious.
