A person has been flown to hospital in a serious condition after falling from a bridge this morning.
The emergency services were called just after 9am on Wednesday following concerns for a man’s welfare on the A249, Isle of Sheppey.
Paramedics attenteded the scene and were joined by crews from the Kent, Surrey, Sussex Air Ambulance service.
The person was treated before being airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.
Witnesses say the HM Coastguard and Kent Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance and there was around 20 emergency service staff on the scene at around 10am.
The bridge was closed between the A2500 for the Leysdown turn off and Sheppey Way for the Lower Halstow turn off.
There was also heavy congestion along Sheppey Way due to diversions.
Emergency service crews remain at the bottom of the bridge for some time after and the road has since reopened.
A fire service spokesman said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called at 9.15am to assist SECAmb near to Sheppey Way, in Iwade, Sittingbourne.
“Two fire engines were sent to the scene, as well as the water safety unit.”
The HM Coastguard has been contacted for further information.
