POLICE have released an e-fit of a youth they are keen to question in connection with a number of assaults.

All the incidents happened in Sittingbourne on Friday, July 1. The first occurred between 7.50pm and 8.10pm outside a supermarket in the town's Avenue of Remembrance.

A 15-year-old girl was standing with her boyfriend when she was approached by a group of youths. One male is alleged to have punched the girl's boyfriend.

The whole group then approached the 15-year-old girl and assaulted her. She suffered a number of injuries to her face. Members of the public intervened and the assault ended.

Five people, four females aged 14, 16, 17 and 18, and a 16-year-old boy were arrested in connection with the incident. They have all been bailed by police pending further enquiries.

Officers are not ruling out the possibility that the incident is linked to an assault that occurred in the graveyard near Albany Park, Sittingbourne, between 8.40pm and 9pm. Three girls, all aged 15, were walking through the graveyard when they were approached by four teenage girls and a male. The group then assaulted the 15-year-olds, one of whom suffered a fractured cheekbone in the incident.

PC Chris Watson who is investigating the incident said: “This was a seemingly unprovoked attack and I am aware that there were lots of people in the area at around the time it occurred.

"Though we have made a number of arrests, I am keen to identify a boy who is described as being white, 16-year-old, around 5ft 2ins tall, of slim build and mousey brown short hair. He was wearing a grey zip up hooded top and jeans.

"I am keen to hear from any witnesses who may be able to assist with this enquiry. All calls will be treated in the strictest confidence.”

Anyone who may be able to assist the investigation is asked to PC Chris Watson on 01795 584162 or Kent CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
